The Challenging Road Ahead

Smoking consumes a large portion of the world’s population. What once was considered to be so taboo is now common place in our society. Smokers consist of men, women and even young teenagers. Smoking doesn’t discriminate. People from all walks of life are smokers. Doesn’t matter if your Caucasian, African American, Asian or Latin, smoking transcends to all walks of life.

How many of you can remember grandpa packing his pipe full of tobacco. As a child you remember the sweet smell. It was the one thing you always remembered your grandfather by. As a child you reveled in the fact that one day you’d be grown up and could have a pipe of your own. You’d be just like grandpa. Sadly grandpa passed away a few years ago from lung cancer. Now, you don’t want to be like grandpa anymore. You saw on TV there was a quit smoking program at your local hospital. Perhaps you should go and check it out. Instead you simply change the channel. After all you don’t need a quit smoking program because you can quit at anytime you want to. You just don’t want to. It would only be a waste of your money to invest in these programs. A friend told you about a free stop smoking program that a local clinic is sponsoring. It wouldn’t cost you a thing but your time. You think it over.

This decision is a difficult one. It’s not such an easy thing to do. You want to put down that pack of cigarettes or even that pipe or cigar, and simply walk away but you can’t. You looked at a brochure about a quit smoking program and it seemed like  something you could do. Sadly, the brochure is still on the table. You glimpse at it every now and then. Don’t beat yourself up if you haven’t taken the huge leap and actually quit yet. It takes time. The thing to remember is that there are several support groups out there for you. There is a quit smoking program that will fit your lifestyle. One such program is Quit Net (http://www.quitnet.com/). This program offers support to help you through what will be a very difficult period in your life. They have a community of current smoker and ex-smokers. So you’ll have access to people who are going through the same things you are. This is just one example of a free stop smoking program. With the internet at your fingertips, you’ll have access to hundreds of other programs.  The key is to find a quit smoking program that you feel comfortable with. Take your time and do the research. You want a program that fits you like a glove. Stay focused and remain positive. It won’t always be easy but in the end it will be well worth it.
